Pilot Me

Pilot Me

“Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in great waters, they see the works of the Lord and wonders of the deep.” (Psalm 107:23,24)

I grew up in Houston within earshot of one of the nation’s busiest ports, the Houston Ship Channel. Crowding the waterway were tankers, freighters, naval vessels, cruise ships, and an infinite number of tugs pushing barges loaded with petrochemical products.

The broad Buffalo Bayou was not a deep stream, except for the narrow center stream 44 feet deep channel. All ships that came up the winding channel were required to be piloted by a channel pilot. The seasoned pilot knew the waterway inside out. He knew where the sand bars lay. He knew where the islands suddenly narrowed the course. Marine navigation requires great skill in the wheelhouse. One bad mistake and that ship laden with a hundred thousand gallons of aviation fuel could become an atomic bomb. “Houston, we have a problem!”

Life is like that. There are hidden reefs and rocks unseen to the natural eye. We need someone who knows where the narrow center stream channel is. We need a pilot to guide our ship. The soul of man is like the wheel room up on the bridge of the ship. There is room in every heart for a Pilot to come aboard. Instead of drifting along on life’s dangerous, pitiless sea, why not invite the true Pilot, the Lord Jesus to come aboard? He can take the wheel and correct your course.

You need to realize how serious, how dangerous is the course you are running. One bad turn can end in a tragic conflagration. Shipwreck!

You don’t need to chance it. Jesus, the ultimate Pilot is ready to come aboard and take the wheel. But that move is up to you. The pilot boat is already alongside awaiting your permission: “Board aye!”Welcome Him aboard.
