TRUTH

“What is truth?” -Pilot in John 18:38

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, sweet for bitter.” -Isaiah 5:20

Stand up for what is right! Speak up! Write it out! Today more than ever we need the power of truth to set men free.

Like ancient Rome, Washington festers with bureaucrats and potentates who are clueless to the essence of truth. They insist it is their business to declare truth to be merely what they feel it should be.  You do not have to be old to remember when good was something good, and bad was something bad.

Today the pastor of Dallas First Baptist Church is being assailed daily, and even attacked by the Dallas Morning News, for declaring marriage is a God given institution involving a man and a woman. I’m not even Baptist, yet I too believe that it is not a discriminating, hateful statement. But I was surprised by how quick the venerable city newspaper was to anathematize all who resist putting school boys in girls’ showers, locker rooms, and restrooms.

We are witnessing wholesale deviation from anything regarded as a true landmark. Those who don’t follow the current warp are immediately labeled “bigots.”

Jim Mackey, a valuable friend and Bible scholar recently wrote an essay on “truth.” Here is a brief quotation:

“I think the most essential gift of the Spirit for our generation is the gift of discernment. If you have this gift you are blessed. If you do not have it, seek it. But if you do have it, don’t be surprised if people who are being enticed by some slick and logical presentation rebuff your concerns and possibly even accuse you of being narrow-minded and judgemental.”

Well, this last line has already been happening. We’ll love and pray for you anyway. I still believe God’s truth is the only firm foundation. It always will be. You will need a solid rock foundation when the storm comes.

Blessings,

Robert
