Great is Thy Faithfulness

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed. Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I hope in Him!” (Lamentations 3:23,24)

A favorite hymn around here is the sweet old song, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.” Yes, we sing many contemporary psalms which no longer use words like “Thee” and “Thou.” But this song still rings true.

I believe in miracles. We have seen so many signs and wonders and miraculous answers to prayer. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever!” (Hebrews 13:8) There is a continuum to God’s great faithfulness.

For instance, I remember a dozen times while building our facilities on a cash basis that we ran clear out of cash. Sure, we always paid our workers, but there were times when the work almost stopped. Only after prayer and waiting on the Lord did we receive His just-in-time supply. I know those anxious moments bonded us more closely to the Lord.

He always turned our anxieties into hope and blessed relief.

There were also times when we dealt with a Nehemiah (the builder) vs. Sanballat (the discourager) type of real time opposition. We even got a few scars. But the Lord turned our scars into stars! He crowned the work with his special blessing.

The Lord has been gracious to us. There have been many miracles here: salvations, healings, saved marriages, better jobs, guidance, food for the hungry, and strength for the weak. God can do it again – and more! This is the message we pass on to the next generation. We are living a miraculous lifestyle here on this high point of Dallas. We can never exhaust God’s gracious supply.

I pray we can pass on this message to our youth: nothing is too hard for God! No nothing! And we can “do all things through Christ who strengthens us.” (Philippians 4:13).
