GOD HONORS SACRIFICE

“I will not offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which cost me nothing. ” David, upon purchasing the site of the Temple mount. 2 Samuel 24:2

God is pleased with sincere sacrifice. However, we cannot give enough to merit our personal salvation. It is a free gift of God’s grace. But we who trust in the Lord realize that He is a giving God. And when we give back, we are following His generous example. We also are recognizing that He owns it all. Everything. It is His, including my money and my possessions. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.” Psalm 24:1

Where the Temple ruins are situated in Jerusalem today above the Western Wall is a site originally purchased by David’s sacrifice many centuries ago. It was offered to him for free by Ornan the Jebusite. David refused to take it as a gift. He bought it at a costly price.

The Word of God is filled with people who are remembered today mainly because they gave.

Abraham was willing to offer up the son he had been promised. The Lord halted his sacrificial act.

When we give back to the Lord the tithe of our income, we are making a statement of honor and thanksgiving. When we give more than the tenth, we are recognizing and identifying with the generous heart of God. We give because we have been given so much.

Jesus said, “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:8 NIV

He told us, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 NIV Giving releases the blessing to flow back to us. God honors sacrifice.

Blessings,
