THE PRIORITY OF PRAYER

“Early will I seek You.” Psalm 63:1

Jesus’ priority of prayer is our pattern. Effective prayer is that which precedes all other daily actiities. This kind of prayer sets the tone, establishes the beginning pattern for the day. Just as John 1:1 declares, “In the beginning was the Word,” this beginning contact with the logos, the living Word each morning should be the rule of every born-again, born of the Spirit Believer.

The word used by the Holy Spirit in John 1 for beginning is the Greek word arche from which we derive our word archeology–the study of beginnings. This word arche also connotes a set pattern or designed footprint. We establish the footprint of all that is produced during the coming day when we pray first. Like cool water drawn from a deep well, prayer draws out the deep counsels from the heart of God. See Proverbs 20:5.

We should begin each day with time before the throne of grace.

This is the loving counsel of the writer of Hebrews: “Let us therefore come boldly unto the

throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and and grace to help in time of need.” (4:16) Begin your day with prayer, talking with your Father. Then all day will be filled with gracious help from His sanctuary.

Blessings to you today,
